UPDATES

April 16, 2020

Abra Community Day rescheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2020

We’ve made some temporary changes to Community Day to make it easier for you to participate from anywhere you play, including at home. We’d like to introduce you to Community Day: Play at Home Edition.

Date + Time

Rescheduled from March, April Community Day will still feature Abra, the Psi Pokémon. The event will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time—yes, you’ll have an additional three hours of Community Day gameplay to enjoy!

Features Remember our previous Abra Community Day announcement? From that, the following will still be happening.

  • Abra will be appearing more frequently in the wild.
  • If you’re lucky, you may encounter a Shiny Abra.
  • Evolve Abra during the event or up to two hours afterward to obtain an Alakazam that knows an exclusive attack. We’d like to announce here that that exclusive attack will be the Fighting-type Fast Attack Counter!
  • For US$1 (or the equivalent pricing tier in your local currency), you’ll be able to unlock a Community Day–exclusive Special Research story—Investigating Illusions! Complete it for 13,000 Stardust, a Poffin, a Rocket Radar, and other rewards. Stay tuned for when tickets go live! The ticket to this Special Research story event is nonrefundable. Subject to applicable law and the exceptions set forth in the Terms of Service.

We’re continuing to prioritize Pokémon GO experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings. Here are some things we’re temporarily changing for Community Day: Play at Home Edition.

  • As mentioned above, Community Day will now run for six hours instead of the regular three.
  • The bonus will now be 3× Catch Stardust. This will be the perfect time to collect Stardust and power up your Pokémon for the GO Battle League!
  • Instead of Lure Modules, Incense will last for three hours for the duration of the event.
  • Buddy Pokémon with a Buddy Level of Great Buddy or higher will bring you helpful items, such as Poké Balls, throughout the event. To take full advantage of this bonus, check out this help center article to learn how to get to Great Buddy with your buddy.
  • There’ll be a special one-time purchase April Community Day bundle, featuring an Elite Charged TM, 30 Ultra Balls, three Super Incubators, and three Incense for 1,280 PokéCoins.
  • Take a snapshot during Community Day for a surprise!

Just because the community is physically apart doesn’t mean we can’t spend Community Day together! Join us on Twitter for 24 hours of Abra-themed coverage, and use the #PokemonGOCommunityDay hashtag to connect with other Trainers while you play!

Please be aware of your surroundings when playing Pokémon GO. Upcoming events are subject to change. Be sure to follow us on social media, opt in to receiving push notifications, and subscribe to our emails to stay updated. Let’s GO!

Pokemon Go Community Day Events List 2020

Trainers, two years and 24 successful Community Day events are behind us and we’re looking forward to the next ‘wave’ of 12 Community Day events in 2020, new Special Pokemon, new shiny forms, cool bonuses and more.

Once a month, we have a special day called Community Day event. Only on this day, Niantic and Pokemon Go introduce a Special Pokemon which appears quite often, but just for a few hours. Also, this Pokemon will know an exclusive move. There is an increased XP, more Stardust, greater Shiny rate and Lure Modules which last for three hours.

Niantic and Pokemon Go introduced the very first Community Day event two years ago, on January 20, 2018, featuring Pikachu as the Special Pokemon and since then we have seen/participated in 24 Community Day events – 12 in 2018 and 12 in 2019.

Community Day Events 2020

  1. January 19 Northern Hemisphere—Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in your local time zone
Southern Hemisphere—Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in your local time zone – According to the pattern, we might get Piplup as the first Special Pokemon in 2020. Piplup January Community Day event confirmed.
  2. February – This was the first time Niantic and Pokemon Go let the community vote for the Special Pokemon. Not everyone liked the voting system. However, we ended up getting Rhyhorn.
  3. March15 The third CD event of 2020 is going live on March 15 featuring Abra, new shiny forms, cool bonuses, and exclusive move. POSTPONED!
  4. April 25 – Niantic and Pokemon Go introduced the first Community Day: Stay at Home Edition, featuring Abra, its shiny forms and more
  5. May– Voting List: Gastly, Sandshrew, Squirtle and Weedle-Subject to change due to the global outbreak
  6. June and July– Voting List: Caterpie, Charmander, Grimer and Porygon-Subject to change due to the global outbreak
  7. August and SeptemberVoting List: Bulbasaur, Exeggcute, Magikarp and Starly-Subject to change due to the global outbreak
  8. October – Possible Deino
  9. November – According to the pattern, we might get Fennekin
  10. December – All previous Community Day events

If we follow the pattern, we should get Gen 4 starter Pokemon in January, and Gen 5 starter Pokemon every other month – March, May, and July (only if they decide not to go with the voting system). This has happened in the past two years. With that being said, Niantic and Pokemon Go might introduce Gen IV in August/September. If that’s the case, then we would most likely get Chespin in September, Fennekin in November and Froakle in January 2021.

2020 will be a great year and we’ll definitely see a lot of new Pokemon and new shiny forms, or maybe get a second chance to catch already released shiny forms.

That being said, here is a list of possible upcoming Community Day events in 2020.
